Trip to Belize: Day 3
Our second full day we went caving. We drove through an orange grove to get to a river where we paddled up stream into the cave. Unlike caves in the USA, you really can, and do, climb all around. This is an actual Mayan fire pit. The stones are in the exact place they have been for over a thousand years. Mayans light fired here to burn incense and blood. In the middle are some shards of Mayan pottery used in rituals which we were allowed to hold.

We ate lunch deep with in the cave on a small sand bar in the river. A school of fish gathered around the sandbar while we ate.
