The first hour or so of day one mainly involved winding our way around String lake and Jenny lake to get to the foot of Cascade Canyon where we would begin a gentle accent that would last the rest of the day.

A short hike further up the canyon from our campsite was lake Solitude. It was the end of the canyon, any further and you had to traverse the Paintbrush Divide which we would do the following day. Still some what frozen over the lake was an incredible place to be.
