City of Rocks

Our first major climbing destination in the van turned out to be City of Rocks in Idaho. We didn't know much about it before we arrived, and were blown away by the sheer amount of climbing! We stayed for a week, but could have stayed much longer. 60 photos

Arriving at City of Rocks, we had no idea what to expect. We had never been to Idaho before, and had only heard of City of Rocks in passing.

The approach to Jackson's Thumb, our objective for the day, took about half an hour and made us realize that we were at a bit of elevation.

We stayed on some BLM land for a few nights, which was beautiful and quiet-- and even had a porta-potty! However the road to get there was rough and rocky so we moved to a campsite within City of Rocks.
