The first night we stayed at an Air BNB which really was a nice tent in an animal farm. Stacy got to meet all of the animals.

It was actually a pretty awesome place to stay, about 5 feet from a goat pen.

There was a massive wild fire some years, things are growing back but very slowly.

Wild fires swept this place clean about 8 years ago, it's still trying to grow back.

We had perfect weather, I even took the bivy sack off later in the night as it was too hot.

I was the only plebe sleeping on the ground.

Forest fire glowing at night
21 Aug 2017 - 05:36

In order to be on the summit for the ~9am Solar Eclipse, we started out on the trail very early. As we gained the ridge line, we could see out across the valley to where a forest fire was raging, glowing beyond the next peak. It's hard to capture in photo, but we all took a moment to marvel at the silent world around us.

The days first light finally starting to break as we scrambled onto the more technical terrain.

The sun is coming!
21 Aug 2017 - 06:09

As we worked our way up steeper and more technical terrain, the sun continued it's slow silent ascent, warming us little by little. The world below still chocked in smoke from the near by forest fires.

Summit and sun warmth!
21 Aug 2017 - 06:43

It had been a cold approach and climb, but as we summited the suns rays finally began to warm us.
Summit!
21 Aug 2017 - 06:45

Three Fingered Jack is not a hard climb, but it's a pretty precarious summit, about 3 butt checks wide

21 Aug 2017 - 07:56

Waiting for the eclipse was cold, especially during the totality, it got very cold and we were very happy to have the extra warmth!

The eclipse was well over 90% at this point, the shadows were beginning to look weird at the edges.
